Formosa Reformed Presbyterian Fellowship
Goal: To develop working relationships between like-minded foreign missionaries and Taiwanese pastors - in church planting and theological training (evangelism and discipleship) and foreign mission.
宗旨: 在植堂、神學訓練 (傳福音與栽培門徒) 以及海外宣教上，建立同心的外國宣教士們與台灣牧者們之間的同工關係。
Agreed Upon Principles and Commitments - Adopted by the Formosa Reformed Presbyterian Fellowship on December 17, 2013.
Commitment to historic reformed theology as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith
Commitment to plant healthy churches. (Criteria: If the missionary were suddenly called away, would there be godly Taiwanese men in place to continue to lead the church? Are they able to support and govern themselves according to the Bible?)
Ecclesiology as distinct from current church practices in Taiwan:
委身於植立健康的教會 (准則: 若宣教士蒙呼召離去，是否有敬虔的台灣弟兄們來帶領教會? 他們是否能按著聖經支持並管理自己?)
Though we might share resources with other Christians and denominations, we commit to only plant reformed presbyterian churches.
Principle of plurality of elders in the church: Commitment to develop functioning church sessions in church plants balanced by the commitment to not be hasty in laying on of hands. (2 Timothy 2:2, Titus 1:5)
在教會中多於一位長老的原則: 在所植的會堂中，委身建立有效用的長執會，同時又不倉促按手 (提摩太前書2章2節; 提多書1章5節)
Commitment to train Taiwanese men to become church planters and elders.
Commitment to connectionalism -- that church plants will be organized together into presbyteries rather than remaining independent local churches (Acts 15)
Commitment to ministry in local heart languages (in addition to Mandarin).
Regulative Principle of Worship
Commitment to Biblical Male Headship:
Commitment to worship God only in the ways God has commanded, to not add to them or subtract from them (e.g. Leviticus 10:1-4, Deuteronomy 12:29-32)
委身於只按神所命定的方式敬拜，並不從之添加或減少 (例如 利未記10章1-4節, 申命記12章29-32節)
Commitment to focus on the Ordinary Means of Grace
--- Commitment to not introduce charismatic/continuationism practices (There is no new special revelation.)
--- Commitment to rely on Scriptural models for the work of the church, rather than importing corporate business, psychology, etc. when they do not match biblical principles
Men are to be trained to lead in the church and in the home.
Commitment to a clear exercise of church discipline.
Commitment to only approve biblical women’s roles: Titus 2: teach other women, children.
Principle: Women may not teach or exercise authority over men . (1 Timothy 2:11-14)
Specific applications of the principle:
1. We will not allow women Chuan-Dao-Ren as they function as pastors and exercise authority over men. (Practical test: any situation where adult Taiwanese men would think that a woman is acting as the leader over them.)
2. We will not allow women preaching or leading God’s people in worship.
3. Women missionaries are only to focus on evangelism and discipleship of women and children.
Commitment to develop regional pastor’s colleges to train lay evangelist to start Bible studies in new areas...
Missionary in Taiwan Cooperation:
Men and women need theological training - theology, evangelism,
-- women to lead women’s Bible studies and children’s Bible studies,
-- men to lead mixed group Bible studies, Men’s bible studies and children’s Bible studies
Only Men are to be trained in preaching and shepherding (M.Div. track)
Theological training is open to all comers
Church planter and pastor training is only to be given to men from in agreement with reformed theology and practice.
Map for church planting
Foreign Missions Training, Vision and Practice: For the health of Taiwanese churches, develop both Taiwan-wide and foreign missions. In particular reach out to Asian countries.
Identify target regions, intent for saturation evangelism and church planting
Missionaries commit to coordinate where their ministries overlap
1. -- at least one missionary paired with one Taiwanese church planter in each region
2. -- to develop a recruiting and training program for lay evangelism and targeted community Bible study development
